The world wide web, or simply "the web" , is a global information system that is the fastest-growing  area of the Internet. The world wide web is a series of servers that are interconnected through hypertext. Hypertext is a method of presenting information in which certain text are highlighted, that, when selected, display more information on that particular topic.

The web, like all other Internet services, is based on the interaction and transfer of data between special computer servers (web servers) and your PC (using web browser software, such as the Internet explorer from Microsoft).

World wide web was the first web browser and editor. It was discontinued in 1994. At the time it was written, it was the sole web browser in existence , as well as the first WYSIWYG HTML editor.

The terms Internet and world wide web are often used without much distinction, However the two are not the same. The Internet is a globally system of interconnected computer networks. The world wide web is a globally collection of document and other resources, linked by hyperlinks and URIs, web resources are accessed using HTTP and HTTPS, which are application-level Internet protocols that Internet's transport protocol.

The world wide web had a number of differences from other Hypertext system available at a time. The web required only unidirectional links rather then bidirectional ones, making it possible for someone to link to another resource without action by the owner of that resources. It also significantly reduced the difficulty of implementing web servers and browsers(in comparison to earlier systems), but it turn presented the chronic problem of link root. Unlike predecessors as HyperCard, the world wide web non-proprietary, making it possible to develop servers and clients independently and to add an extensions without licensing restrictions. The server implementation of the Gopher Protocol was no longer free to use, this produced with rapid shift away from Gopher and towards the web. An early popular web browser was Violawww  for Unix and the X windows systems.
